In a trauma scenario, the first three to five minutes are the difference between survival and preventable death. Your medical bag is what bridges that gap. A properly organized tactical medical bag sized for your role, positioned for immediate access, and stocked for the specific injury patterns of your environment is not optional equipment for law enforcement, military personnel, or serious outdoor operators. It is the equipment that keeps people alive long enough for definitive medical care to arrive.

Medical Bag Types at PX Supply

IFAK Pouches

Individual First Aid Kit pouches are compact, body-worn medical containers designed for single-casualty self-treatment and buddy treatment of life-threatening injuries. IFAK pouches mount on plate carriers, duty belts, and backpacks via MOLLE attachment positioned where both hands can reach them, regardless of how the wearer is positioned. A standard IFAK pouch contains a tourniquet, chest seal, pressure dressing, and gloves at a minimum. Every operator should carry one at all times during field operations.

Trauma Bags

Larger capacity medical bags for team leaders, medics, and first responders who carry supplies for treating multiple casualties. Trauma bags provide organized, compartmented storage for airway management equipment, hemorrhage control supplies, vascular access materials, and extended care consumables. Available in MOLLE-compatible configurations that attach to vehicles, base camps, and pack systems.

Military Medic Bags

Full-sized medic carry systems for combat lifesavers and military medical personnel who may treat multiple casualties during extended field operations. Military medic bags use a clamshell opening for full content visibility, multiple internal organization panels for rapid item identification under stress, and exterior MOLLE attachment points for supplemental pouches.

Range and Training Medical Kits

Compact medical bags designed for range safety officers, shooting instructors, and training personnel who need immediate access to trauma supplies during live-fire exercises. Range medical kits are typically mounted on a belt or kept at the firing line for immediate deployment in the event of an accidental discharge or training injury.

IFAK Placement - Position Matters as Much as Contents

An IFAK mounted where you cannot reach it under stress is the same as no IFAK at all. Standard placement guidance: Mount your IFAK on the lower front of your plate carrier, below the plate bag and above the cummerbund. This position is reachable with both hands while standing, kneeling, and prone. Mark it clearly with a red cross or distinctive color so that others can access your kit to treat you if you are incapacitated. Never bury your IFAK under other pouches that require removal before access.

Read our complete tactical first aid kits guide for IFAK stocking recommendations and field treatment protocols. Complete your medical setup with plate carrier vests for IFAK mounting, MOLLE pouches for additional medical organization, and tactical backpacks with dedicated medical compartments.

Frequently Asked Questions

IFAK stands for Individual First Aid Kit, the personal trauma kit carried by military personnel and law enforcement for self-treatment and buddy-treatment of life-threatening injuries. A combat-proven IFAK contains at minimum a tourniquet for extremity hemorrhage, a chest seal for penetrating chest wounds, a pressure dressing for wound packing, and nitrile gloves for infection control. Secondary additions include a nasopharyngeal airway, trauma shears, and a permanent marker for writing tourniquet application time.

An IFAK pouch is compact and body-worn, designed to carry supplies for treating one casualty, typically the wearer or an immediate buddy. A trauma bag is larger and typically bag or vehicle-mounted, designed to carry supplies for treating multiple casualties over an extended period. Law enforcement patrol officers carry an IFAK on their person. Tactical medics and rescue personnel carry trauma bags with expanded capability.

Organize by priority of use; the items you will need first should be the most accessible. Tourniquet and chest seal in the most accessible position; these address the injuries most likely to cause preventable death in the first minutes. Pressure dressing and gloves next. Airway management equipment behind those. Extended care supplies in the deepest compartment. Train your access until you can retrieve every item in the dark with one hand.

Yes. All tactical medical bags and IFAK pouches in this collection use standard MOLLE and PALS webbing attachment for mounting on plate carriers, tactical vests, duty belts, and backpacks. Check individual product pages for the specific MOLLE attachment dimensions and compatible mounting surface sizes.

Yes. Tactical medical equipment, such as tourniquets, chest seals, pressure dressings, and medical bags, is legal for civilian purchase and carry in all U.S. states with no restrictions. Proficiency training from a Stop the Bleed course, Wilderness First Aid certification, or TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) training is strongly recommended before relying on this equipment in a real emergency.
