Pleated knees are folded fabric panels sewn into the knee area of the pants, creating additional fabric that unfolds during bending, kneeling, and crouching movements. The pleats allow a much greater range of knee flexion without the pants binding or pulling at the knee area. Classic military field pants used pleated knees before the modern articulated knee construction used in contemporary tactical pants. The pleated design is both a heritage detail and a practical feature; it provides a genuinely better range of motion during field activities than flat-panel construction at the same fabric weight.

Suspender loops are reinforced loops sewn into the waistband at regular intervals for attaching military-style suspenders or braces. Heavy 9 oz field pants carry significant weight when loaded with pocket contents; suspenders distribute that weight from the waist to the shoulders, reducing waistband pressure and hip fatigue during extended wear.
