This is the full-color version: red, white, and blue embroidered American flag. For duty and tactical environments where a low-visibility flag patch is required, Rothco also produces a subdued US flag patch in olive drab and black tones. If your uniform standard or operational environment requires subdued colors, verify which version you need before ordering. Both versions use hook-and-loop backing for easy attachment and removal.

The hook-and-loop back attaches to any loop-surface material, the soft side of Velcro. This includes the hook-and-loop admin panels on most plate carriers and tactical vests, the loop panel on patrol caps and boonie hats, backpack loop fields, and dedicated patch panels. It does not permanently attach to standard fabric. For permanent attachment to clothing, a sew-on flag patch is the correct choice.

In standard U.S. military wear, the flag patch is worn on the right shoulder with the stars facing forward toward the front of the soldier. This is called the reverse field flag; it represents the flag flying in the breeze as the soldier advances. For civilian tactical gear, patch placement is at the wearer's discretion.
